Die erziehungswissenschaftliche Kindheitsforschung an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal befasst sich mit dem Verhältnis von Pädagogik und Kindheit sowie Kindsein unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Differenz, Migration und Ungleichheit. Ausgehend von (de-)konstruktivistischen Theorieperspektiven und im Rahmen des qualitativ-interpretativen Forschungsparadigmas bearbeitet sie die folgenden drei Themenschwerpunkte: Erstens ist sie mit der Frage befasst, wie Pädagogik oder Bildungseinrichtungen an der Herstellung von Differenz (Generation, Geschlecht, Ethnizität usw.) und ungleichen Kindheiten beteiligt ist. Zweitens bearbeitet sie die Frage, wie elementar- und kindheitspädagogisches Handeln diskriminierungskritisch und differenzsensibel gestaltet sein kann. Drittens widmet sie sich der Bedeutung unterschiedlicher und ungleicher Lebensbedingungen für die Lebenswelten von Kindern bzw. Kindsein und legt ein spezifisches Verständnis von Kindern als Akteuren zugrunde.

The educational science of childhood research at the University of Wuppertal deals with the relationship between the aforementioned subjects education and childhood with a particular focus on migration, inequality and differences. Starting with (de-) constructivist theoretical perspectives and within the framework of the qualitative-interpretative research paradigm, it deals with the following three main points. Firstly, it addresses the question how education or educational institutions contribute to the emergence of differences regarding gender, generations, ethnicity etc. while also dealing with inequality in the childhood. Secondly, it focuses on how elementary and childhood education can be designed to be more sensitive to discrimination and differences like those mentioned above. Last but not least, the educational science of childhood research at our university pays special attention to the importance of different and unequal living conditions for children’s lives and childhood and requires a specific understanding of children as actors.
